Making a Simple Cupcake Stand
The size of the board to use and the number of tiers depends of course in the number of cupcakes you're making.
This one was for 40 cupcakes, and a 6 inch cake on top, if it didn't have the cake on top it would fit around 45 or so cupcakes.

What you'll need
3 cake dummies (4, 5 & 6 inch) I used 2 x 5 inch ones because they didn't have a 6 inch at the store when i went to pick them up
4 covered masonite cake boards (8,10,12,14 inch boards)
3 Cleats (optional, they help to pick up the stand, as it doesn't sit flat on the table)
Craft Glue
Stainless Steel Dress Maker's Pins
Ribbon or a piece of matching satin or other material.

Step 1
Stick the cleats on the base of the largest board. (if you're wondering what cleats are, they're just little feet that go on the base board to make it easier to pick up the cake/cake stand.)

Step 2
Using craft glue stick the dummies on the top of each cake board. Of course smallest on smallest etc, leaving the smallest board without a dummy, as the smallest board will go on top. Allow to dry.

Step 3
Once again using craft glue stick it all together, finishing with the smallest board on the top.
Trim with ribbon using dressmaker's pins, making sure you leave on the seams on the same side, so that can the be the back of your stand.

Step 4
This is the finished stand, with the cupcakes on it.

NOTES

If you have a business and are hiring these out, take into account that you may have to replace the ribbon or material covering the dummies every time you hire it out, as they will get dirty.
Also make sure you take a security deposit. The first stand i made in early 06, was returned badly scratched the first time and in pieces the second time it was hired out :(
