You will need to make the center first. You need to cut 10 plastic tipped stamens in half, then tape them all together.
Cut a 2 inch piece of sisal, and tape it around the stamens, using the tweezers bend the ends inwards and then dust with yellow. You can colour your sisal yellow before starting,
and allow it to dry before assembling the center. |
Cut two wires right in half, and then each half in half again. |
You need a total of 20 small bits of wires, YES this flower has 20 petals. |
Roll a small piece of gumpaste into a ball , and place it on one of the ridges of your board. |
Roll out a long piece. |
Using the smallest cutter, cut a petal ensuring the ridge is right in the middle, with the thickest part of the ridge to the bottom of the petal. |
Insert the wire into the bottom of the petal, always keeping the petal securely between your fingers, to ensure that the wire does not poke through. |
Press the paste around the petal to ensure it won't be going anywhere. |
Place it on the tulip veiner, with the ridge facing down, and press firmly. |
Both sides of your petal should have very well defined veins. |
Place the petal on the foam pad and soften the edges with the balling tool. |
As you can see, the petals have to be very thin in order to achieve a more realistic look. |
Place the petals on the egg mold as you are making them. You need to make 5 of the smaller petals. |
When you finished making your 5th petal, pick up the first one you made and bend the wire right at the tip of the petal. |
Tape it as close as possible to the center. |
Bend the second petal and tape as previously |
Continue with the third petal, placement order is not important. Place them randomly. |
Continue with the 4th petal, ensuring they are very tightly taped together. |
Finish with the fifth petal and put aside. |
Cut out 6 petals with the medium sized cutter, vein and shape as previously, and tape around the first set of 5 petals.
Cut another 9 petals with the large cutter, following the same process.
Don't make the petals ahead and then attempt to tape them when they are dry. Doing it while they are still soft, allows you to be able to move the petals around and fit them into the shape you desire
At this point you can actually dust the inside of the flower, just right near the edge of each petal with a little green petal dust. |
