Making a 3d Cucumber
The board required for this cake was prepared for me by my husband. He put a screw through the bottom, and screwed on a wooden skewer to the board. I then covered the board with fondant, marked the tiles and let it dry. (the board is masonite). Allow the board to dry for a few days.
A week before you have to assemble the cake make gumpaste half ball, which i would recommend being done solid OR if you don't mind that part of the cake is not edible using a half styrofoam ball. I did a hollow half ball which collapsed from the weight of the cake because it wasn't dry enough, if you make it solid and a week in advance, it should be fine. Make a hole through the center when you first make it and let it dry. When it's dry put this on the skewer first.
Bake your cakes in 420gm tomato tins, or other suitable tin(which are about 5 inches high and 3 inches wide.) Skewer the first cake through and put some ganache on top.

Skewer the second cake, and carve the top to make it rounded. Using a small serrated knife works well.
Cover the whole thing with ganache.
Cut a rectangle of green fondant wide enough to just go around the cucumber and tall enough to cover the length of it. Join it at the top and back, and smooth it well with your hands so that most of the seams are invisible. Don't worry if it's a little lumpy, cucumbers are not smooth. Add a bit of melted fondant to the board.

Stick down the tomato cake on the melted fondant. Then add the features to each cake, made out of fondant.

Finish by adding some lettering and trimming the board with ribbon.
